We love the fall and winter. It means that we can get our favorite clothes out of the closet and enjoy wearing them again. My personal favorite fall and winter outerwear piece is definitely my leather coat. When I purchased it I knew that it would be an investment in style.

Knowing that it would be an investment piece in my wardrobe I decided to buy a very good one. I chose an Italian lambskin coat over a cattle hide coat. Lambskin is much more luxurious and softer. Then I needed to decide on style.

Styles come and styles go but some styles are classic and are always in vogue. One of my favorite styles of coat is a trench coat. A double breasted coat is always in style too. A coat with a belt also helps to give shape to the wearer, a good thing.

Then there’s choice of color. Again, you can’t go wrong choosing classic colors. Those would be black, brown, dark blue or red. Sure, that pink leather bomber jacket is hot, but probably just this year. Next year you won’t wear it once. Stick with a classic color and style. Also consider buying a leather coat with a length just above or below the knee. That way it’s perfect for both casual wear and for dress up events.

You may also want to buy your leather coat one size larger so that you can fit warmer bulkier pieces underneath if you need to do a bit of layering on a particularly cold day.
